HIMATANGI TRAGEDY
AXE FOUND NEAR WHARE Dominion Special Service. Palmerston North, October 1. What may be a discovery having considerable bearing on the recent Himatangi tragedy was made when Mr. F. Robinson, of Foxton, visited the scene of the tragedy, and found whnt he believed might be a blood-stained axe. Mr. Robinson visited the property to see some farm implements and other material, which was being disposed of by the Public Trustee. While looking over the farm he discovered n short distance from the site of the whnre .-in axe. the handle of which was covered with some substance resembling blond.
Mr. Robinson inffirmed a “Dominion” reporter that the axe-head exactly fitted holes made in the two kerosene tins found in the remains of the whare. He was not in a position to say definitely that the handle was covered with blood, but it pointed to such a state. The exports would not have any difficulty in saying that there was a probability of the axe being used to kill some animal, he said. The axe was disposed of together with two others at the sale. Approached to-night the two Palmerston North detectives who are handling the case refused to comment on these new developments.
