STREET COLLECTING
“IMPOSITION ON GOOD NATURE”
Dominion Special Service.
Auckland, October 1.
The question of street collections was discussed at a conference of representatives of local bodies held last night at Onehunga. The following resolution was adopted: “That this conference of representatives of various local bodies assembled for dealing with street collections, which, in the opinion of this meeting, are at the present time far too numerous and are becoming an imposition on the good nature of a willing section of the community, considers that four days only in the year should be set aside for this purpose.” The delegates will report to their local bodies with a view to getting this resolution confirmed.
It was also decided that of the four days for street collections one should be allocated to Poppy Day and one to St John Ambulance. Applications are to be invited from other organisations for. permission to take up street collections and these will be considered by an executive which was set up last night, consisting of one representative of each local body.
