CASES

Mr. E. Page, S.M., dealt with police cases in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday. John Thomas Neill, aged 35, who had been in cuetody for a week receiving medical attention for drunkenness, pleaded guilty to his sixth offence of that nature within six months. He was convicted and ordered to pay £3 Is. medical expenses, in default seven days’ imprisonment. Jack Harris, aged 29, who was described as a waiter and steward, admitted having stolen a suit of clothes and a railway ticket, valued in all at £7 4s. Accused took the suit containing the railway ticket, which he subsequently destroyed. He had £5 in his possession when arrested. Harris was fined £4 and ordered to pay the value of the ticket, in default one month’s imprisonment. Harris stated that he was under the influence of liquor when he committed the theft, and had fallen to a sudden temptation. The suit was stolen from a hotel in the city, where Harris had been drinking with a crowd of others on a recent night. BY-LAW CASES Mr. T. B. McNeil, S.M., dealt with offenders against by-laws. William Knox was fined £l, Jack Nelson 10s., and Claude T. Arthur and Arthur Gamble ss. each, for leaving their motor-cars unattended. Joseph T. Horton was fined 10s. for letting his car remain stationary at a tram stop. , „ , Hugh Aplin was fined 2s. 6d. for allowing his chimney to catch on fire. Having no lights on his vehicle cost Peter L. Arcus 10s. Norman Carroll was convicted and ordered to pay £4 Bs. 6d. costs on a charge of dangerous driving. For having no number-plates attached to the rear of his motor-car, Alfred Howard was fined £l. . Henry P. Caselberg was fined 10s. for having no driver’s license.
