SCENIC AREAS

DISTRICT RESERVATIONS.

A total area of 42,436 acres was covered in proclamations issued last year setting land apart in the Dominion as scenic or historic reserves. The annual report of the Lands and Survey Department on the subject presented to Parliament yesterday stated that, the reservations in the Wellington district included the acquisition of a small area for the purpose of improving the access to the Silverstream reserve in the Hutt Valley and the setting aside of four bush areas in the Hautapu survey district in the vicinity of Omatane and Ruahine.
