FURTHER BOUTS By Telegraph—Press Association. Greymouth. August 30. The New Zealand amateur boxing championship contests were continued this afternoon and evening. There were good attendances. Results are as follow :— Light-weights.

A. Craig (Te Arolia), 9sL 71b., beat C. J. Roper (Taumarunui), 9st. 91b. The winner’s straight left was very effective. H. Thomas (Wellington), 9st. 71b.' beat L. Ennis (Waimate), Ost. 121 b., the winner’s hits being the cleaner. W. Carey (Canterbury), 9st. 1-lb., beat T. Walker (Otago), Ost. 71b. The winner was the more aggressive and the harder hitter. G. Thomas (Wellington. 9st. 71b., beat J. McMahon (Tailigpe), Ost 101 b., after a gruelling contest, in which both were tottering at different times, the final margin,being very slight. | Fly-weights.

A. Ennis (Canterbury), 7st. Sib., beat K. Webb (Wellington), ist. 101 b., the winner being markedly superior. D. Roebuck (Taranaki), 7st 91b., beat J. Drew (Otago), 7st. 01b., but there was little or nothing between them, Drew attacking the oftener. F. Pearcey (Auckland), ist. 61b., beat S. Purton (Greymouth), 7st. 81b., after a fast bout,, the decision being by no means well received. Heavy-weights. C. Gardner (Canterbury). 12st. lib., beat C. Byrne (Taranaki), 12st. 31b., the winner out-boxing his opponent. A. Campbell (Oamaru) beat C. Spencer (Bluff), after a hard bout, the winner lasting the better. Bantam-weights; R. Purdy (Auckland). Bst., beat P. Hutchinson (Hawke’s Bay), Sst. lib. The winner’s left leads gained the lead in the first two rounds.

L. Knuckey (Napier), Sst lib., beat M. Howson (Greymouth), Sst., the former getting the decision in the second round. H. Knopp (Wellington), Bst. lib., beat W. Davey (Canterbury), Sst 11b. The loser opened well, but Knopp gained the ascendancy as the bout proceeded, and the referee intervened before the final gong. Bantam-weights. R. Purdy (Auckland), Sst, beat N. NEW ZEALAND BOXING ASSOCIATION

GRANTING OF MORGAN’S LICENSE APPROVED

By Telegraph—Press Association. Greymouth, August 30. The annual meeting of the New Zealand Boxing Association took place today. Twenty-five delegates were present. Mr. A. Beban (president) presided. Dr. P. F. McEvedy (chairman New Zealand Boxing Council), attended by invitation of the conference. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. The following remits were approved:— That a local association .shall not hold any professional contest within a period of fourteen days immediately preceding the day on which championships begin or within a similar period immediately succeeding the day on which championships conclude. That where any professional under engagement for a contest under any local association requests a postponement of such contest ■to some later date to that named in the articles, it shall,be optional for such Ideal association to hold him liable to pay any expenses claimed by bis opponent consequent on such postponement, not exceeding one pound per day for each and every day following the date on which the original agreement provided. A Southland remit "That purses for professional contests be limited to £l5O, including expenses,” was amended to read: "That in the first contest by a professional the purse not to exceed £2OO and expenses £4O. and that the purse in subsequent contests be limited to £150." Remits from Southland and Tatimarunui urging the abolition of the amusement tax were referred to the New Zealand Council.

Next Championships at Palmerston.

It was resolved to hold the 1930 championships at Palmerston North. The question of granting a license to Morgan as a professional was discussed. Dr. P. F. McEvedy explained that there were extenuating circumstances, and if the council had not granted the license Morgan would have gone to Australia. and his services would thus have been lost to the Dominion. It was agreed on the motion of the president that the action of the Npw Zealand Council in granting the license to Morgan be approved.’ The president of the Manawatu Association was' elected president of the New Zealand Boxing Association for the en-‘ suing year. Messrs. A. Beban (Greymouth) and I. E. Staples (Wellington) were elected vice-presidents. All members of the New Zealand Council were re-elected, and members of the appeal committee alfo were re-elected. VERIDELL KNOCKS OUT MODERICH (Rec. August 31, 0.30 a.m.) Sydney. August 30. At the Leichhardt Stadium to-night Stan Veridell knocked out the New Zealander George Moderich in the ninth of a twelve rounds preliminary contest.
