STAR BOATING CLUB

ANNUAL MEETING Last evening the Star Boating Club held its sixty-third annual meeting, Mr. A; D. Bayfield, occupying the chair. The secretary (Mr. M. L. G. Leask) in submitting the annual report, said that the past season had not been as successful as that covered by the previous report, but there was every reason to believe that the enthusiasm shown had been at least as strong as in past seasons. The chairman said, that in view of tie opinion expressed throughout the Dominion, they were unable to accept the invitation to send oarsmen to compete in Australia. One of the-principaf barriers was the matter of finance, they were not able to raise funds like other sports bodies. Mr. Bayfield mentioned that, applications had been already received.from Marlborough and Auckland to hold the New Zealand .championships at their respective centres, but Mr. Halliburton Johnston, the donor of the. “championship eights” cup, had suggested Wellington as being the permanent place for the rowing of the race. ...
