WHOSE MOTOR-CAR?
NAME AND ADDRESS RULE In answer to “Inquirer,” it has been ascertained that the new identification card regulation for motor-cars, which was approved by the City Council at its last meeting, is not yet in operation. After the approval of the idea by the council a new by-law will have to be passed, approved by the Minister concerned, and then advertised for a certain period. In the advertisements will be stated the date from which the bylaw will become effective. It is probable that information will also be given as to how cards, with holders of the approved size, may be obtained. This process is likely to take the best part of a couple of months, so that people are quite free to drive their cars in public without the identification cards for the next few weeks. It is understood that it may not be compulsory for car owners to have the card attached to the steering column. It has been suggested that if the cards v. jre stuck to the lower right-hand corners of the wind-screen, so that it could be read from in front of the car the end in view would be better served than by attaching the card (in its case) to the steering column. If attached to the steering column the holder might twist round through vibration or some other cause, so that the name of the owner would not be revealed by a casual glance. If, however, the card could be read through the windscreen there would be no need for an official to peer into the interior of the car at all.
