Historic Home in the Hands of the Housebreaker.— The photograph shows a historic Wellington residence which is now in the hands of the housebreakesrs. This is the house known as "The Grange," built on Highland Park something like seventy years ago by the late William Barnard Rhodes, and more recently owned and occupied by Sir Harold Beauchamp. The land on which the residence stands was recently subdivided and sold. The photograph at right shows an interesting relic of "The Grange." It is a crest carved in oak and mounted on Kauri, which adorned the house since its erection. Fairbairn's Book of Crests describes it thus:-“Rhodes, of New Zealand and Kippax, Yorks, a dexter arm erect vested azure, cuffed argent, charged with an acorn, and grasping a fern sapling of N.Z. Robur meum Deus ('God is my strength')". — L. Wallace, photo.
