LIMIT ON STAKES Dominion Special Service. Maaterton, July 29. Mr. J. lorns (patron) presided at the annual meeting to-night of the Masterton Bacing Club. It was decided not to exceed £5OOO in stakes for the year’s racing. That sum, it was pointed out, allowed for an additional day’s racing it such were obtained. Mr. C. M. Strouts brought forward the question of re-lntroduclfig the ten shilling tote, urging ’that it was worth another trial. He moved that the matter be recommended to the incoming executive. The chairman pointed out that on previous occasions Investments had dropped ou the introduction of the ten shilling Other members, however, supported Mr. Strouts’s proposal which .was referred/to the executive. . , a Mr. J. M. James congratulated the patron, president and their colleagues on the fine balance sheet submitted for the year s operations. Eulogistic reference was made to the services of Mr. B. O. Srnith, the retiring steward, who was rejected In the ballot. , , The election of oflicers for the ensuing year resulted as follows: —Patron. Mr. J. lorns (re-elected unopposed); president, Mr. C. F. Vallance (re-elected unopposed); vice-presidents, Messrs. C. J. Bennett, J. Cooper (re-elected unopposed). A ballot was necessary for the election of fourteen stewards. Those elected were: Messrs. K. Cooper, A. A.' Cameron, H. B. Drummond, s J W. Gill, H. P. Hugo, D. K. Logan, A. G. Lawson, D. M. Montgomery, Hugh Morrison. J. H. Payton, W. Paqualin, F. B. Vallance (all retiring members), J. M. James and F. B. Thomson (new members). Unsuccessful' candidates were: Messrs. T. V. Caverhill, F. E. Dorset, R. O. Smith (retiring member) and L. A. Wadham. Other officials re-elected unopposed were: Time-keeper, Mr. L. S. Nicol; treasurer. Mr. C. F. Vallance; auditor, Mr. G. W. Sellar.
