A STREET COMEDY
CYCLIST'S PAINFUL SITUATION. Palmerston North, July 22. Por the bystanders at least, rather a humorous incident occurred in the Square this morning, although the chief actor in the llttlo comedy-drama did not appear to see that side of the situation. A youth on a bicycle was moving along Broadway at a considerable pace, when a motor-car, which was travelling even faster, suddenly appeared from out of a side street, and began to cross his path. Sensing danger ahead, the youth immediately applied his brake desperately, standing high upon the pedals and pressing ETs whole weight down, with disastrous results. The back wheel of the bicycle crumpled up, and the unfortunate rider was. forced to assume a most undignified posture, in the busiest part of Palmerston North. Fortunately, although impressed with the hardness or bitumen, ho was uninjured, but the look of surprise stayed a long time.
