HERD TESTING MARTINBOROUGH ASSOCIATION. Dominion Speciai Service Martinborough, July 20. Mr. A. W. George presided at the annual meeting, of the Martinborough HerdTesting Association. The report for the year showed that it had been almost a record as far as the cost of testing and the number of cows under test were concerned. It was, found that on receipt of the Government subsidy of Is. per cow the group was able to pay a cash rebate of 3s. per cow to members. The following resolution was carried:— "That in-view of the fact that the Government subsidy may be late in being paid out. the secretary be instructed to pay an Immediate cash rebate of 2s. per cow from funds In hand, the balance of Is. to be refunded when the subsidy is to hand.” A recommendation to the incoming committee was passed as follows: —“That if not fewer than 1500 cows are offering for the 1929-30 season the first charge to members will not exceed ss. per cow. in place of 6s. operating in all previous years.” The election of officers resulted as follows: —Chairman, Mr. A, W. George: committee, Messrs. L. A. Wrigley. C. Bargh. R. T. Parsonsj J Martin, W. A. lorns, A. 'Spicer. J McGillicuddy, Charles Smith, J. C. Bidwill and T. Hume. The last two members mentioned were elected in plae" of Mr. H. W. McXfaster, who is giving up farming for a time, and Mr. W. Clarry. who has left the district. In revising the list of'herds offering for the new season, it was found that although six of the old herds were not available, four new, herds were offering, and it was anticipated that the number of cows for the new season would probably be equal to tho number offering last year—l7l2. Of this number under test no fewer than 1710 qualified for the Government subsidy. ROMNEY MARSH SHEEP CLUB FORMED XT WANGANUI. Dominion Special Service. Wanganui, July 20. A meeting of Romnev Marsh sheep breeders was held at Wanganui on July 10 for the purpose of formulating a Wanganui and district group or club of Jtomney Marsh breeders. Mr. Blair, as convener of the meeting, took the chair. Mr. Blair said he had called the meeting on the invitation of the parent body to endeavour to form a group or club of Romney breeders in thp district, and he had taken the liberty of asking breeders from Waverley to Taihape to attend, but the notice had been somewhat short, which no
doubt accounted tor the non-attendanee of the majority of the Romney men. He had personally seen most of them and they were in the main sympathetic with the movement. • After the chairman and other speakers had urged the advantages of having a club a motion that a Romney breeders’ club for Wanganui and district be formed was carried unanimously. An election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Mr. J. McL. Blair (Maxwell) ; vice-presidents, Messrs. A. L. Wheeler (Leedstown, Marton), A. C. Morton (Pak Iti, Ohangaiti); committee, Messrs. I. J. Moore (Marton), J. G. Alex-ander-(Maxwell), J. McLeay, senr. (Turakin). J. Hunter (Fordell), W. E. Broderick (Makirikiri). J. Brice D. Ross (Kapanul), W. A. Hunt (Waverley). G. L. Marshall (Turaklna), .1, Bartosh (Tnihape); secretary, Mr. F. G. Seddon (.Wanganui) ; treasurer. Mr. F. Handley (Maxwell). It was decided that the subscription for the first year be 21s. for owners of more than 100 registered stud ewes, and 10s. Gd. for those with under 100 registered stud ewes. The secretary was instructed to circularise all owners mentioned in the stud book in the district asking them to support the scheme by joining up.
