LEITER DELIVERIES

.Sir, —The Acting-Postmaster has instituted a new way for the letter-carriers to do their rounds. Our carrier does the south parts of his round, and then drifts back towards the city, where he arrives for the morning delivery at 12.30, near the Basin Reserve. For the afternoon delivery he arrived at 5.30 p.m. to-day. It is very nice living in the city and paring high rates, and then having the mail brought to us so late. We might just as well live further out. and catch the early delivery. Why should Mitchelltown. Vogeltown, Melrose, and Newtown be the first on the rounds of the lettercarriers? By the time they return to the city it is too dark to see the addresses on the letters.—l am, etc., SORE HEAD. Wellington, July 16.

[The postal authorities state that owing to the rapid growth of the districts concerned, the decentralisation of the deliveries became imperative. The growing demands on the accommodation in the central office was also a factor. The rearrangement under- which the southern suburbs are served by postmen stationed at Kilbirnie and Wellington South instead of at the chief post office as heretofore will, they contend, benefit many of the residents in those localities. Obviously, when any change is made in the postmen’s deliveries, the altered conditions adversely affect some of the residents. In this case the delivery now commence* at the Wellington South post office, whereas in the past it commenced at th* bottom of Adelaide Road.]
