“NOT WORTHY OF FURTHER LENIENCY”
REFORMATIVE DETENTION FOR WOMAN THIEF.
Described by the Auckland Probation Officer as a girl not worthy of being given further leniency, Ada Alice Myers, alias Brown, alias Morrison, aged 25, appeared before Mr. E. Page, S.M, in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday, charged with failing to comply with the terms of her release on probation, and also with stealing, at Otorohanga, £7 in money, the property of Leonard Parker. Sub-Inspector Lander stated that sh* had been admitted to probation in Auckland last October for theft. While on probation she committed two other thefts. She went from Auckland to Otorohanga, and stole £7 in money from a wallet in a box in Parker’s room. She egme to Wellington, and assumed the name of Morrison, and it was with difllquliy that She whs traced by the police. When arrested she had then all her money. She had a list of five previous convictions. Accused was represented by Mr. F. Anyon, who said that the girl had the disadvantage Of never having known her parents, and in consequence had never had the benefit of proper parental control. The Magistrate said that he considered that accused had been given ample opportunity. and pointed out that she had committed two thefts, prior to the present one, since being admitted to probation. On the theft charge accused was sentenced to two years’ reformative detention. and on the other chargt, wm convicted and discharged.
