PRINCE OF WALES
RUMOURS OF VISIT TO AUSTRALIA NO PREPARATIONS BEING MADE Australian Press Association. London. June 26. It is officially stated at York House that no preparations are being made for the Prince of Wales to visit Australia in 1931. [A London message in yesterday’s issue stated that delegates Ito the exservice men’s conference expressed the opinion that it was most probable that the Prince of Wales would visit Australia in 1931. They pointed out that the next conference would be held in Australia, which it was appropriate that the Prince of Wales should open, as well as the Sydney Harbour Bridge.] REPLIES TO INQUIRIES Australian Press Association. London, June 26. The Australian Press Association interviewed the Prince of Wales’s secretary, who said: “We do not know anything regarding the rumour from Sydney that the Prince of Wales has been asked .to go to Australia in 1931. No invitation has been received. However, 1931 Is a long way off and It Is surely premature." The Australian Press Association asked: “Is the visit improbable?” and the reply was: “No.”
The Colonial Office authorities emphatically discount the reports of the Prince of Wales’s visit. They admitted it was possible, although at present it had not been arranged, that one of the younger princes might visit Australia, but certainly not solely to open the Sydney harbour bridge. It might possibly be if the visit were extended to other important functions. In any case it must include a tour of Australia and New Zealand similar to that of the Duke and Duchess of York.
