A NARROW ESCAPE

CAR PLUNGES OVER A BANK

Dominion Special Service.

Palmerston North. June 26.

A heavy sedan car, owned by the National Dairy Association, and driven bv Mr. Manners, of Wellington, plunged over a steep bank at 7.15 last night while negotiating a sharp corner at the extreme end of Main Street West, just on the crest of the rise overlooking the Terrace End cemetery. The car apparently skidded on the loose surface metal when turning the corner, and narrowly missing a telegraph pole, went over the bank. The driver had a very narrow escape from serious injury, and was unhurt. The car is not extensively damaged, although tbc steering-wheel is forced almost to the baett of the driver’s sen.t Early this morning a case of business papers which had been left in the car were found to be missing.
