MOTOR-BOAT RACE
DOVER TO CALAIS AND BACK ALL COMPETITORS FAIL TO COMPLETE JOURNEY (United Press Association.— By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Australian Press Assn. —United Service. London, June 9. The outboard motor-boat race from Dover to Calais and return yesterday proved a fiasco, and was abandoned after three hours. Many boats were waterlogged, some had engine trouble, some lost their way, and some ran out of petrSl and drifted helplessly. One took fire. Forty-nine boats left Dover, ancT it was expected the leaders would return in under two hours, but not a single boat hove in sight. Tugs, fast motor cruisers, lifeboats, and yachts put out from Dover, Folkestone, and' Deal scouring the Channel all the afternoon and all night long. . The various competitors had distressing experiences. There were four women competitors. All were rescued.
