LODGE MEETINGS
. MANCHESTER UNITY. A well-attended meeting of the officers and members of the Wellington District Manchester Unity. 1.0.0. F., lodges was held in the Loyal Britannia lodge room on Wednesday last. The president, of the Wellington Past Grands’ Lodge, Bro. Holt, P.G., declared the lodge open, and briefly detailed ■ the purpose of the meeting, the inauguration and demonstration of the new ritual The conductor, .Bro. Wainwright, then conducted the various demonstration officers to their chairs, Sister Parnell acting as Noble Grand. A full demonstration of the ritual with odes was given, after which opportunity was taken for a general discussion, and 1 criticism. The quarterly meeting of the Loyal Britannia Lodge, Manchester Unity, ; 1.0.0. F., was held on Monday evening, the presiding officer being Bro. McGreevy, N.G. The election <t>f officers for the ensuing term resulted as follows: —N.G., Bro. McHlraith; VG.,. Bro. Duff; E.S., Bro. Davidson; Warden, Bro. Harper. Sick visitor’s reports were received. During the evening the Friendly Societies’ Dispensary balancesheet was read, causiug a lengthy discussion. Visiting brothers were accorded lodge honours. . The fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Rosa of the Valley Lodge, Manchester Unity, 1.0.0. F., was held recently. N.G. Bro. McKenzie presided over a large attendance. The election of officers resulted as follows:—N.G., Bro. Teasdale;‘ V.G., Bro. H. Hardy; Warden, Bro. Stewenson; L.M., Sis. A. Reynolds; elect, secretary. Sis. S. Reynolds ; pianist, Bro. Bertleson; conductors, Sis. Davis and Bro. H. Teasdale. A vote of thanks was accorded Bro. Bell, of Loyal Newtown Lodge, and Sis. Jenner, Loyal Sis. Wallis Lodge,' who - acted -as -/scrutineers. The matter of opening A Juvenile lodge in the district was discussod and was left in the hands of the Social Committee for further consideration. P.G. Bro. Tait, on behalf of the lodge, presented Bro. Bertleson with a clock in commemoration of his marriage, and also congratulated Bro. Bertleson on his work in the lodge as pianist The officers of the lodge initiated one candidate as an hon. member and three candidates were proposed for membership. The half-yearly meeting of Loyal Mangatalnoka Lodge, Manchester Unity, 1.0.0. F., took place at Pahiatua on Monday evening, there being a good attendance. N.G. Bro. R. Yewen presided. > Accounts amounting to £43105. 6d. were passed for payment. The election of officers for the ensuing term resulted: N.G., Bro. A. W. McQueen; V.G., Bro. F. Martin; E.S., Bro. S. Mathews; L.M., Bro. L. W. Kitchen. L.M. Bro. Kitchen then Installed the officerselect into their respective chairs, and each returned thanks. It was decided to' present P.G. Bro; L. Angelini with a Past Grand’s emblem. One candidate 'was proposed for initiation. After other routine business was disposed of, the lodge was formally closed and refreshments dispensed.
The quarterly summoned meeting of the Loyal Antipodean Lodge, Manchester Unity, LO.O.F..'was held on Tuesday .evening, Bro. Exton, N. 0., presiding. One candidate was Initiated into the lodge and One proposal was received for membership. Bro. G. Bell attended and reported on the preliminary arrangements for the Manchester Unity annual ball. Lodge honours were accorded to visitors, amongst them being Bro. A. Osborn, Loyal Methven Lodge, and Bro. E. McPherson, Loyal Amberley Lodge, also representatives of Loyal Britannia and Newtown Lodges. The election of officers resulted as follows:—N.G.. Bro. N. Smith; V.G., Bro. Berry; E.S., Bro. Partridge; Warden, Bro. Clelland; Guardian, Bro. Gotham; conductors, Bros. Craddock and Moseley. It was resolved to pay the additional levy as imposed by the U.F.S. Dispensary from the funds. Bro. E. Wells gave a report on the working of the dispensary. UNITED ORDER OF ODDFELLOWS. The Grand United Order of Oddfellows opened a new ladles’ branch. Rose of the Valley, at Petone recently. Bro. Morgan, District Master, as chairman, opened the Occasional District Lodge, district officers present being Bro. Morgan, D.M., Bro.. Boswell, D.D.M.. Bro. Norton, D.S., Bro. Hutchins, district treasurer. Bro. Casey, Bro. Heathcote, and Sister Hooper, district trustees. The following Grand Lodge officers were visitors: Bro. Bain, G.M., Bro. Bradstock, G.S., Bro. Chorley, G. Trus., Bro. Hey, Bro. Murphy, and Bro. Stynes, G. directors.' Members from all branches In the Wellington district were present. After the reading of the dispensation by the district secretary, the Grand Master was asked to dedicate the Lodge. The meeting was then adjourned. On resuming Bro. Boswell, Deputy-District Master, took the chair. Sister Trethaway, N.G.. Star of Newtown, was requested to act as N.G. and Sister Hooper as P.N.G. to Initiate new members. The. election of principal officers resulted as follows: Sister E. MacCormick, P.N.G.: Sister Davies. N.G.; Sister Hey, V.G.; Sister Martin, F.S.: Sister I. MacCormick, Rec. Sec. Aftj>r the close of the meeting all present enjoyed a very pleasant evening, Sister Lawler officiating at the piano. The Newtown Alpha, G.U.0.0.F., held its usual .meeting last Wednesday, Bro. Ryde, N.G., presiding. Bro. Barnett. P.N.G.. supervised. There was a good attendance of members and a good deal of business was dealt with. Bro. Goggan was nominated to the District Council as district lecturer. Six new members wore admitted and four proposed. The Loyal Central Branch, G.U.0.0.F., held its usual meeting last Thursday, Bro. Slynes, N.G.. presiding. Bro. Morgan, P.N.G., supervised. A heavy bill of business was placed before the meeting and was quickly disposed of. Four members reported on sick roll and payment was passed accordingly. Five new members were initiated and one proposed.
