ROTARY CONVENTION
ARGUMENT CONCERNING PER CAPITA TAX Australian Press Association. Dallas (Texas), May 30. British and American Rotary delegates clashed over the question of British economy and American expansion, when a resolution to reduce the annual per capita tax from 4J dollars to 4 dollars was presented. After considerable argument the Convention agreed to reject the proposal. The convention also rejected a Brit-ish-Irish proposal to abolish the second part of the motto concerning “profit,” but there was little debate on it. Mr. Hugh Galloway, Newcastle-on-Tyne, offered the tax reduction proposal, criticising the business affairs of the Rotary International, and alleging that money was being spent too fast.
ROTARIANS’ DUTY TO COUNTRY Australian Press Assn.—United Service. . (Rec. May 31, 8.15 p.m.) New York, May 30. At the Dallas Convention Rotarians adopted a resolution declaring that the 1931 Convention, and at least every fourth meeting thereafter, should be held outside the United States. At the request of the Italian delegation the convention unanimously passed a resolution providing that a statement be prepared concerning the relation of the Rotarian to his country, as Italian Rotarians wished it to be made clear that their duty to Rotary in no way interfered with their duty to Fascism.
The Registration Committee announced that registration had passed the 9500 mark, making this the second largest convention ever held. The officers elected will be announced tomorrow.
