BAKERS & PASTRYCOOKS

DISPUTE SETTLED ON LINES OF PRESENT AWARD. The hearing of an industrial dispute between the Dominion Master Bakers and the Bakers’ Union of Workers, which opened on Tuesday, before the Conciliation Commissioner (Mr. P. Hally), was concluded yesterday. The workers claimed a new award providing for a reduction of hours from 46 to 44 per week, and an increase in wages up to 30s. per week. The majority of the clauses in the existing award were contested. A complete agreement on all the disputed points was arrived at on lines similar to the present award. The Court of Arbitration will be asked to embody the agreement in an award for a period of two years.
