LODGE MEETINGS

MANCHESTER UNITY The fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Antipodean Lodge, Manchester Unity, I. was held recently, Bro. G. G. Exton, N.G.. presiding. One proposal for membership .was received.'Bro. C. :L. J. Marshall, presented a letter of recommendation from Loyal Ponsonby Lodge, Auckland, and was accorded a warm reception with lodge honours. The lodge was notified of the next combined official visit, which is to be paid to the Loyal Combination Lodge at Johnsonville. Bros. Lynneberg, Craddock, and Clelland were appointed to represent the lodge at a meeting convened by the Past Grand Lodge, rearranging an M.U. gathering. Bro. E. Wells was appointed to represent the lodge at the friendly societies’ meeting, re hospital associations. The lodge was duly notified that Bro. E. W. Guise, P.G., had taken over the duties of district secretary.

The Loyal Rose of Sharon Lodge, Manchester Unity, held its fortnightly meeting in its lodge room, Trentham, recently, Sister G. Marshall presiding over a good attendance. Advice was received of the death of Bro. Jacob Geange, and the lodge stood in silence as a mark of respect. One honorary- member was admitted and two proposals were receive ! for membership. P.G. Sister G. Whii man was reappointed lecture master for the ehsuing term.. The fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Britannia Lodge, Manchester Unity 1.0.0. F., was held in the lodge room, Clyde Quay, Bro. McGreevy, N.G., presiding over a good attendance. Sick visitors gave their reports, and two candidates were initiated. Lodge honours were accorded Bro. Jorgenson, sec. Loyal Sister Wallis Lodge. It is the duty of the representatives of the several societies to submit to the board of management particulars of cases'of any children of members, or deceased members, of their society, or branch who need assistance in any way of comfort, or appliances for disabled children, or making arrangements for disbursements in the interest of thechild or children. The amount available for distress is at the present time £3OO. A meeting of the Management Committee of the Wellington District Manchester Unity, 1.0.0. F., was held in the District Chambers, Bro. R. Bell, D.G.M., presiding over a full attendance of district officers. Business from the recent conference was discussed and special committee set up to deal with same. A combined visit of Manchester Unity, 1.0.0. F., members was held in the Oddfellows’ Hall,. Johnsonville, under the auspices of the Loyal Combination Lodge. A large number of members travelled from town- by special buses and private cars. The large gathering took the form of a dance and cqrd party. During the evening the visitors were suitably welcomed by the Noble Grand. Bro. H. G. Exton, N.G., presided over the usual fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Antipodean Lodge. One candidate presented the Declaration, and was duly initiated into the Lodge and Order. Bro. Snelling, 1.P.N.G., giving the initiation charge, while Bro. T. Lynneberg, P.G., delivered the address. After receiving sick visitors’ reports and sick pay being arranged, Lodge adjourned early to allow members to participate in a social evening arranged by Loyal Sister Wallis Lodge. I N.G. Bro. Yewen presided at the meeting of Loyal Marigatainoka Lodge. Manchester Unity 1.0.0. F.. held at Pahiatua! One candidate was initiated into thr? Order, he being accorded Lodge honours. P.G. Bro. J. Swapney submitted a report on the annual ball. A credit balance was disclosed, and this was considered satisfactory by members. Accounts amounting to £l9 odd were passed for payment. Loyal Eketahuna Lodge entered a challenge for the Ritual Shield. After discussion the challenge was accepted, and May 6 was suggested as the date. P.G- Bro. H. A. Bick reported on meetings of the District Management Committee and Hospital Committee. A meeting called by the Loyal Wellington Past Grands’ Lodge for the purpose of inaugurating an annual Manchester Unity Oddfellows’ gathering, was very well attended by representatives of all city and suburban lodges. It was decided to go ahead and make arrangements for a social and dance on azgrand scale, to be held on July 16 in the Oddfellows.’ Quay. Various sub-commit-tees were appointed to complete the various details required, and non-daucers will be well-catered for with games, billiards, cards, etc. The usual meeting of the Loyal Newtown Lodge, Manchester Unity 1.0.0. F., was held in the lodge room, Riddiford Street', Bro. G. Bell, N.G., presiding over a good attendance of members and visitors. The N.Gi announced that the office of Vice-Grand was vacant, and Bro. Eades was elected to the vacancy. After the usual business had been attended to. Bro. G. Bell was installed as financial secretary and Bro. Eades as Vice-Grand, Bro. R. Bell, D.G.M.. acting as_ installing officer, assisted by Bro. R. K. Coupcr, D. : Bro. Guise D.S., and Bro. Madeley, district trustee. Congratulatory reference was made to the fact that Loyal Newtown Lodge, during its thirty-two years of existence, had supplied the district with no fewer than six Grand Masters. INDEPENDENT ORDER OF ODDFELLOWS. The fortnightly meeting of Zealaudia Lodge No. 48, 1.0.0. F., N.Z., was held recently, Bro. G. A. Wilson, N.G., presiding over a large attendance of members and visitors, including Bros. H. Daines. P.G., P.D.D.G.M., P.C.P., G.L. Rep., G. F. Rudkin, P.G.. P.C.P., G.L. Rep., and J. H. West, P.G., C.P. Three members were reported on the sick list and relative sick pay passed for payment. Two candidates were nominated for membership and one candidate admitted to membership. The quarterly accounts were passed for payment, and the secretary reported on the satisfactory position of the lodge finances. Reports were received from the delegates to the U.F.S. Council and the Hospital Boards’ Association. Bro. H. J. Darkins reported that arrangements had been finalised for the holding of a benefit social on May 2 in conjunction with Victoria Rebekah Lodge. The fallowing officers were installed for the current term by Bro. H. Daines. assisted by Bros. Rudkin, Hard ham. Maley, Christie and Guyton: 1.P.G., Bro. G. A. Wilson; N.G., Bro. F. A. Bezzant; V.G.. Bro. R. W. Harvey; Recording Secretary, Bro. E. E. Jones; Financial Secretary, Bro. E. D. Wallis, P.G.; Treasurer. Bro. H. J. Darkins, P.G. Bros. Rudkin and Daines gave a resume on the proceedings at the recent session of Grand Lodge. It was decided to accept the challenge of Heretaunga Lodge for the Bradley Memorial Cribbage Shield, play to take place on May 9. The next meeting, which falls on Anzac Day. was deleted. A motion of sympathy with the .relatives of the late Bro. F. Wilkinson. Grand Secretary, was passed, members standing in silence. It was decided to comply with the wishes of the Grand Master and go into mourning for six weeks.
