RECEIPTS AMOUNT TO £640,766 A SMALL CREDIT BALANCE

The Mayor (Mr. G. A. Troup) presented the receipts and expenditure of the City Corporation at last night’s meeting of the City Council. He simply stated that the receipts amounted«to £640,766 17s. 5d., and there remained a credit balance of £513 3s. 5d., which he thought was highly satisfactory. Among the largest items on the receipts side were the following: —Rates, £431,628; rents from reclaimed land, £52,879; water (by meter), £22,668; transfer from Electric Lighting Department, £20,000; rents from reserves, £7339; license fees, £12,546. Items on the expenditure side were as follow:—Street works, £91,667; interest on loans, £169,527; waterworks, £38,684; reserves, -£30,984; salaries, £28,538; hospital demand, £57,642; sinking funds, £40,487; collection of refuse, £20,368.
