BOARD DEFIES MINISTER

DECISION TO CLOSE HOSPITAL By Telegraph.—Press Association. Gisborne, April 18. On the ground that the Tolaga Bay Cottage Hospital is not providing an adequate service for the amount expended on it, the Cook Hospital Board decided to-day to close the institution. The decision was arrived at after a prolonged discussion on a telegram from the Minister of Health stating that he could not agree to the application to close the institution, the board deciding on a policy of open defiance of the Minister by six votes to five. One speaker said the Minister’s action was inconsistent, as when in Gisborne he informed the board that the decision lay wth them, but now he stated he did not agree with the closing of the Institution.
