ALLOCATION OF GROUNDS CONDITIONS FOR BASIN RESERVE The Reserves Committee recommended, at last night’s meeting of the City Council, that the use of the Basin Reserve for Saturday afternoon play from April 27 to August 31 be offered the Wellington Football Association on the following terms: — _ A cash payment of £l5O to be made. The council also to collect 20 per cent, of ground ftikings, and 50 per cent of stand takings. , The ground to be played on every Saturday it is fit for play during the period named. The best games of the code to be played there to the approval of the Director of Parks and Reserves. A penalty of £5O to be paid if the ground is left idle. If wet the Director of Reserves to be sole judge as to the condition of the ground. That officer also to have the right to veto the curtainraisers when he considers the ground not fit td carry same. No sub-letting of the ground to be allowed without the approval of the Reserves Committee. Not more than one hundred honorary members’ tickets to be issued for any one game. These tickets to be collected each’ day. , ... The Wellington Hockey Association is to be offered the use of one of the grounds on three days during the year. The Hockey Association to pay £5 per day to the Football Association and to receive one-third of the net gate takings. Their dates to be submitted to the Football Association before June 30. In case of a dispute the Director of Parks and Reserves to be arbiter between the two bodies, that officer’s decision to be final. The Reserves Committee further recommended to the council that the previous decision of the committee not to approve of the request of the Wellington Rugby Union for permission to charge admission to Prince of Wales Park on Saturday afternoons be adhered to. Other grounds were allocated as follow : Wellington Football Association, 16; Wellington Rugby Union, 28; Hockey Association, 12. Councillor McKeen said he would like' the council this season to allocate some grounds to Wellington Rugby League. It was stated that no application had been received from the Rugby League. Councillor H. D. Bennett said the Ladies’ Hockey Association also asked that some provision might be made for them. It -was clear that all the demands for playing areas in Wellington could not be met. Councillor Hislop mentioned that there was a reserve at Kaiwarra. The report was adopted.
