). ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Polynesian Society was held on Wednesday, Mr. Johannes Andersen in the chair. The Ven. Archdeacon Herbert Williams was elected president for the ensuing year, with Mr. W. M. Crompton-Smith as secretary, and Mr. H. A. Huggius as treasurer. The retiring members of the council, Sir Maui Pomare and Messrs. Johannes C. Andersen and Herbert Baillie, were re-elected. Sir Aparima Ngata was elected to fill a vacancy. Mr. A. Mclvor was elected auditor.
It was reported that among the publications of the year were “Language, Mythology, and Songs of Bwaido’ga, Papua,” by D. Jenners and the late Rev. A. Ballantyne. and “Tuhoe,” a sketch of the origin, history, myths, and beliefs of the Tuhoe tribe by Elsdon Best. Mr. C. Pfeifer, of Napier, presented to the society an enlarged photograph of Te Hapuka Ika o te Moana, one of the Maori celebrities of Hawke's Bay. Mr. Pfeifer, who was present, gave a short account of Te Hapuka. ■ Mr. H. Andersem. who relinquished the office of secretary' owing to pressure of private business, was presented with a copy of one of the society's publications, which was autographed by all members present.
