; POLICE AND MAINTENANCE ; CASES j i : Police and maintenance cases in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday were heard before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M. James Lawson, a labourer, aged 33, Avas convicted and fined 55., in default 24 hours’ imprisonment, 'for being drunk, and on a charge of incurring a debt of Is. for a meal, from Vincent Marinovic,' by means of fraud, he was convicted and ordered to pay costs, 10s. A. fine of £2, in default seven days’ imprisonment, was imposed on George Henry Archibald Hprne, a labourer, who was charged with behaving in a disorderly manner in Manners Street. Michael O’Toole, a labourer, aged 47, was fined 10s., in default 48 hours’ imprisonment,. for a second offence of drunkenness. On the application of Chief-Detective Ward, a remand until March 8 was granted to Leonard Walker Corlett, a labourer, aged 23, who was charged with obtaining from W. T. Johnston, Ltd., 10 gallons of benzine, valued at 18s. Bd., and £5 14s. 4d. in money by means of a false pretence. A remand to appear at Masterton today was granted to Martin Power, a labourer, aged 38, who was charged with being found in a state of helpless drunkmaintenance CASES. John Ropata, who was charged with being £lO5 in arrears on an order for the support of his two children, was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment, the warrant to be suspended so long ashe pays £1 12s. 6d. a week. John Alfred Weinberg was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment on a charge of being £l3 ss. in arrears on an order for the maintenance of his wife. The warrant is to be suspended, provided he pays £1 17s. 6d. a week. A sentence of six months’ imprisonment was imposed on John Edwards, who was charged with being £72 in arrears on an I order for his wife’s maintenace. The warrant is to be suspended so long as he ' pays £1 12s. 6d. a week. A sentence of one month’s imprisonment was imposed on Arthur Thomas Russell, who was charged with being £l4 15s. in arrears on an order for the support of his wife and his child. He will be released on payment of the arrears. Charles Alfred\oldbury was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment for being £7 in arrears on an order for the support of his child. He is to be released on payment of the arrears. Warrants were issued by the Magis- ’ trate for the arrest of Arthur Robert King, and for William Alexander Henderson Garden, both of Whom were charged with being in arrears on maintenance orders.
