DUKE OF YORK’S STAMMER

Many people who have recently heard the Duke of York at public functions have commented on the great improvement he has shown as a speechmaker. The reason for this improvement is, a “Daily Chronicle” representative learned last month, that the Duke has undergone a course of treatment which lias cured him of a stammer which formerly impeded his speech, particularly in public. Mr. Lionel Logue, a young Australian, of Harley Street, who specialises in the treatment of speech defects, was responsible for the cure. Fearing that his stammer might affect, to some extent the success of his tour in Australia last year, the Duke consulted Mr. Logue. Daily for some months the Duke and Mr. Logue met and concentrated on correcting the defect. The result was widely apparent during the Australian tour. Gramophone records taken of the Duke’s fine speech at Canberra showed that it was delivered without a cause or suspicion of a stammer,
