INFANT CHILD ABANDONED
Dominion Special Service. Dunedin, March 4. When Pearl Caroline Hislop appeared before Mr. Justice MacGregor in the Supreme Court this morning for sentence on a charge of abandoning her infant child, Mr. E. J. Anderson, who appeared for the girl, said she was 20 years of age and the daughter of highly respectable people. Tiring of life in a country district, she came to town and “fell.” Speaking of the abandonment of the child counsel said she left it near a house where it was very soon found. It was suggested that she. should be sent somewhere with an environment which would be better than that under which she had been living for the last year or two. The Crown Prosecutor, Mr. F. B. Adams, said the girl was fortunate that she was not called upon to answer a more serious charge. The police report on the case contained matters" which would figure in another criminal charge against another person. After further discussion His Honour ordered prisoner to be detained in the Salvation Army Home at Caversham for twelve months.
