NAPIER WOOL SALE
HALFPENNY IMPROVEMENT ON AUCKLAND FRENCH COMPETITION PRONOUNCED ' By Telegraph.—Press Association. > ' Napier, March 4. Wool values at the fourth sale of the season in Napier to-day showed an improvement of a halfpenny on the prices realised at Auckland and Waganul. Compared with January sale in Napier prices were lower by a penny halfpenny to two pence, but the condition of the wool offered to-day was not up to the standard of that submitted at the earlier auctions, when some of the best clips Hawke’s Bay has produced for many seasons were offered. To-day’s catalogue totalled 28,027 bales, and about 85 per cent, was disposed of under the hammer. Buyers were present representing all the usual consuming centres. Americans did not operate very freely, there being a limited quantity of the wool suited to their requirements. Competition generally was keen, evidently the lower range of prices, permitting buyers to get within their limit. French competition was pronounced, with Bradford a close second, but there did not appear to be such keen competition from German interests as in the earlier sales. The official range of prices is not obtainable to-night.
