LIBERAL PROMISES (Australian Press Assn.—United Service.) London, March 1. Choosing the Feast of St. David, the 'Welsh Patron Saint, for the occasion, Mr. Lloyd George addressed 410 Liberal candidates at, the forthcoming election. He declared that although the Conservatives had promised prosperity and security Britain’s trade and industry had seriously declined after six years of Tory rule. Agriculture was In the worst condition it had been In for half a century, while British influence abroad had decreased. The recent declining figures showed that the electors were shrinking from entrusting power to the Labour Party which was pledged to overthrow the country’s industrial and commercial system. Mr. Lloyd George declared that the Liberals were the only free party, and alone were capable of completely dealing with the situation. Outlining the Liberal programme, he said that expenditure must be ruthlessly reduced, and disarmament vigorously pushed »n, the Singapore Base being postponed until more was done for England. Trade barriers at home and abroad must be removed. He said that the Liberals were ready with a scheme which would bring unemployment to normal, without adding a penny of Hxation.
