KELBURN The good feeling between two old-time rivals, the Cartertori and Kelburn Clubs, was further cemented on Saturday when Carterton paid their annual return visit to the Kelburn courts. A strong wind handicapped the players in the morning, but as the day advanced the conditions improved considerably. The teams were evenly matched, and some excellent tennis resulted. It was not until the last match of the day was decided that the winning club was known. Interest in this game was very keen, and the sporting spirit shown in these contests was clearly demonstrated. Notwithstanding the fact that the game was the deciding one as to which club would be the .winners on the day’s play, Kelburn barracked enthusiastically for the Carterton pair, and the Carterton men on the "bank” were no less enthusiastic in urging the Kelburn men on. After a hardfought, enjoyable game the visitors carried off the honours,; leaving Carterton victors on the day’s play by 7 matches to 6. Carterton won 5 singles and Kelburn 4, while each club won two doubles. The Carterton men who tipped the beam in favour of their club by winning the final double were “chaired” off the court by members of the town club —no mean feat- in view -. of the fact that one of the victors scaled something .in the region of 15 stone. , Lunch was provided for the players by Mrs. C. Earle and Mrs. G. G. Hodgkins, and Mrs. U. M. Kean and Mrs. G. D. Little were in- charge of the afternoon tea. Before the visitors left the courts Mr. R. Roydhouse, on behalf of the visitors, called for three cheers for the Kelburn Club, remarking on the pleasure derived from these interchanges of visits, and Mr. C. W. Earle, president of the Kelburn Club, congratulated Carterton on their well-won victory. Three hearty cheers were given for the victors and three more for the ladies who had done so much to make the day a success.

Spalding Tennis Balls hold pride of place in the world’s tennis. The Davis Cup finals for the seven years, 19211927. inclusive, have been played with the Spalding. Adopted b.v many of the leading associations in New Zealand. Made in England.—Advt.

Volleying needs a supple wrist and a perfectly-balanced racquet—thirty-six per cent, of the Wimbledon entrants last year used Slazenger Racquets. That’s proof enough surely. See also the* Slazenger Ball, exclusively selected since 1902 for the Wimbledon Champi
