ADMISSION OF THEFT

“It will do him all the good in the world to have some discipline,” said Mr. J. K. Hunt, S.M., iu the Magistrates Court yesterday, when referring to . Edgar Brown, aged 19, who pleaded guilty to four charges of theft between July of last year and February of this year. The stolen goods were a lampstand and IJlb. of copper wire, valued at £1 10s. 6d.; a radiator, valued at £1 10s.; an electric bell, valued at 25.; and an electric iron and lampshade, valued at 17s. 6d. All were the property of A. b. Paterson and Co., Ltd. Chief-Detective Ward said that last month accused was caught committing a theft. The property was taken from him and a search was made of his.home, where other stolen goods were found. In addition, there were discovered some things taken from another firm two years ago. ‘ He appears to be a larrikin type and deserves some discipline," concluded Mr. Ward. The probation officer (Mr. T. P. Milla) suggested a term in a Borstal Institute. Mr. Hunt: So do I. Accused was ordered, on the first charge, to be detained in a Borstal Institute for a period not exceeding two years, and was convicted on the other charges.
