GLENMORE STREET “CURVE”

NOT TO BE PERMANENT ALIGNMENT The Mayor informed the City Council last night that the existing curve near the approach to the Botanical Gardens was not intended to be the permanent alignment of the footpath. The matter was raised by Councillor J. Aston, who said the gates had been left in an unsatisfactory condition. Tile engineer had stated that the work had been carried out according to the plan approved. It was a question as to how long the position was to remain as it was. The Reserves Committee was not satisfied. Councillor 11. A. Huggins said the idea was to have the approaches so constructed that the fine gates erected would be seen. The chairman of the Reserves Committee (Councillor B. G. H. Burn) suggested that councillors might visit the locality, and see for themselves what was proposed. The Mayor (Mr. G. A. Troup) said that if the matter were left in the hands of the engineer, he would make a job of it. The curve, as laid out at present, was not intended to be the permanent alignment.

Councillor Aston: I’ll accept that. I'm very pleased to hear it.
