CUT TO RUN PARALLEL WITH PANAMA AMERICAN SENATE PASSES SURVEY VOTE (United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (Australian Presa Association.) (Rec. February 26, 8.30 p.m.) Washington, February 25. The Senate passed a resolution favouring the appropriation of 150,000 dollars for surveying the proposed inter-oceanic canal through Nicaragua.
In March of last year Senator McKellar introduced a Bill for the immediate construction of a Nicaraguan canal to run parallel with the Panama Canal, and be financed by two 200,000,000-dollar thirty-year 3 per cent. Government bonds. He said a Nicaraguan canal would be a paying Investment, and would restore American prestige in Nicaragua by turning bandits into labourers. He asked for ten million dollars appropriation for survey.
