Evidence of identification was taken, and the inquest was adjourned until Monday next. Police Official Killed.—Detective-Ser-geant Truskett, of the New South Wales Police Force, was killed on Saturday while motoring with his wife (states a : Press Association message from Sydney). The car went over a precipice in the Roseville locality. Mrs. Truskett was badly injured. Gasometer Explosion in Berlin.—A large gasometer near the northern railway station in Berlin exploded, dislodg- ■ ed huge blocks from the surrounding buildings, and scattered debris over great distances (states an Australian Press Association message). Six persons were seriously injured. Found Dead in a Drain,—A Press Association message from Thames states that the body of Thomas Ernest Ballard, aged 65 years, married, a traveller, residing at Stanley Bay, was found in a deep drain in Hauraki Road, Turua, on Sunday morning, along with his bicycle. Deceased, who was well known, left the boarding house on Saturday night to visit clients and did not return. He had suffered from heart trouble.
