TIMELY RESCUE
BATHER ATTACKED IN SURF UNUSUAL FEROCIOUSNESS OF SHARKS INCIDENT ON SYDNEY BEACH (United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (Australian Press Association.) (Rec. February 18, 11 p.m.).. Sydney, February 18. Alan Butcher, aged twenty years, was bathing with four others at Marouba this afternoon, when he was attacked by a shark, which tore the flesh from his side and buttocks. He cried for help, and his companions and a timely wave brought him safely to shore. ,He Is suffering from shock and loss of blood. A serious example of the ferociousness of the sharks this year was witnessed to-day. Three monsters, iff Deewhy,, six miles north of Sydney, came within ten feet of the beach and greedily snapped pieces of flesh out of a whale which was stranded on the foreshore and was tethered waiting transference to the zoological gardens. A resourceful fisherman caught one )f the sharks, which was placed in a canvas tank and taken to the zoo.
