CRICKET
SUGGESTED AUSTRALIAN
VIEWS OF COUNCIL CHAIRMAN • .
Dominion Special Service. ' Christchurch, February 12. Reviewing the recent cricket tests between Australia and England, k Arthur Mailey, according to a cable message on Monday, suggests that an Australian team should tour New Zealand early next season. He states that such a tour would improve Australia’s chances of regaining the Ashes in 1930. When approached on the subject to-day, Mr. A. T. Donnelly, chairman of the New Zealand Cricket Council, said that the suggestion was quite a reasonable one. However, the council was at present endeavouring to arrange for an English team to visit New Zealand next season, and if that were arranged, it would not be possible to have two oversea tours in the same season; but if negotiations for an English tour failed, the council would be only too glad to have an Australian visit. As arrangements had not yet been finalised, no definite statement could be made on the matter. Mr. Donnelly agreed that sueli a toui would improve Australia’s chances of regaining the Ashes.
