February O—N.Z; Metropolitan T.C. Summer. February 16—Wellington T.C. February 20, 21—Gore R.C. Summer (four events). NOMINATIONS. February 12—Banks Peninsula R.C. Summer. February 13—Invercargill T.C. Annual. February 15—Marlborough T.C. Summer. HANDICAPS. February 11—Wellington T.C. ACCEPTANCES. February 13— Wellington T.C. February 15—Otahuhu T.C. Summer. February 16—Kalkoura T.C. Annual. NOTES AND COMMENTS (By “Overcheck.”) The summer meeting of the Metropolitan Trotting Club will be held at Addington to-day. The card is a nicely-balanced one, and as each race has filled well, the racing should be interesting throughout. Proceedings will be opened at noon with the— SPREYDON HANDICAP (harness), of 300 sovs. For unhoppled trotters. 8.34 class. One mile and a-half. Tim Wood ... scr. Wild Hebe 36 Commander Bln- Nelson McKinney 48 gen scr. Nelson Boy .... 48 Nelson Ata .... scr. Our Lady 48 Western Voyage 12 Katute 72 Lady Fan 24 Duke Bingen ... SI Of the scratch division, 1 am inclined to favour the chances of Nelson Ata, who raced well at Odmaru in October, and Forbury in November. Western Voyage does not appeal, but if Lady Fan is produced in good racing order, she should be a hard horse to beat. Of the others, Nelson McKinney and Nelson Boy read best to me, and of the pair, the latter has a little the better of the handicap, as his fastest time is 3.27 1-5, while that of Nelson McKinney is 3.28 2-5. Possibly Lady Fan, Nelson Boy, and Nelson Ata will do best.

LINWOOD HANDICAP (saddle), of 300 ‘ sovs. 2.15 class. One mile. Avenger scr. Chef 12 Bing Boyscr. Kotuku Jack ... 12 Dick Logan .. scr. Macaranda 12 Okoura scr. Rebel 12 Succession .... scr. Sahib 12 Malwhareti ... scr. Bingen Lad .... 12 Rey De Oro .. scr. High Jinks .... 12 Ruflne scr. Royal Serene, .. 12 Billy Sea 12 Darknite 24 With only 24 yards separating the front division and the back-marker, it will be seen that In the oplnon of the handcapper the horses are much of a class. Bing Boy is a good saddle horse, and with Marwhareiti, should race well. The latter ran second to Lenamhor at Forbury, registering 2.14 4-5. At Addington he should be capable of'something better than that, If the track Is in good order. The wellknown sire, Rey de Oro, Is due to compete, but will probably not receive much:attention from backers. Chet has been, racing in promising style, but I rather fancy Sahib, Rebel, and Royal Serene will hold him safe. The race has a decidedly open appearance, but three that can be relied upon to give their supporters a good run are Maiwhariti, Bing Boy, and Rebel. MIDSUMMER HANDICAP (harness), of \ 1000 sovs. 4.30 class. Two miles. Audacious .... scr. Logan Chief ... 36

Audacious is handicapped practically up to the smartest time standing to his credit, and it is an open question whether he will ever register as good time again. Talent is not a true stayer, and when up against the best class, usually falls when the serious part of the job has to be undertaken. Countryman has raced solidly of late in saddle, and If he can be Induced to do ihis best In harness, he will be a

hard horso to beat. Bonny Logan is on too hard a mark for my liking, while Quality is unreliable; and Western King has a tremendous burst of speed, but has yet to prove himself at two miles. On his recent form Logan Chief must be passed over, Logan Park raced well at Wellington, but Vesuvius may not be at his best, as I think he had to be eased, owing to semio Injury he sustained not so long ago. At a difference of 12 yards, Terence Dillon is preferred to Cardinal Logan. The public may accord most support to Countryman, Logan Park, and Terence Dillon.

PAPANUI HANDICAP (harness); of 350 sovs. 4.36 class. Two miles. High Jinks ... scr. Golden Bubbles. 21 Kotuku Jack . scr. Real Light 24 Ltngfield scr. Wharepiana .... 36 Macarandal2 Jean McElwyn . 36 Omaha 12 Epigram 36 William The Double Event .. 36 -Great 12 Billy Sea 36 Jolly Pet 24 Lingfleld has been showing improved form of late, and she should not be long now in securing winning brackets. Omaha raced well at Timaru, where he ran Dundas Boy to a head in 4.35 1-5. William the Great would probably be better suited by a shorter distance,, but if Jolly Pet leaves the mark correctly, he will be dangerous. His manners of late, however, have left much to be desired, and those that support him have to accept the risk of his not getting away. Golden Bubbles does not appeal much at two miles, and Real Light is preferred to her. Billy Sea has the best staying credentials of those on 4.33, and as he went 4.31 2-5 at Addington in August he is not badly treated. Jean McElwyn went two solid races at Forbury, aud must be given a chance. A likely trio are Lingfield, Omaha, and Billy Sea. CASHMERE HANDICAP (harness), of 500 sovs. 4.40 class. For unhoppled trotters. Two miles. Bonnie Belmont scr. Cannonball ..,.36

In the Crescent Handicap, at Forbury, Bonnie Belmont won from Happy Rosa, and Le Todd, from each of whom he was receiving 60 yards. Engagement, conceding the winner 06 yards, was fourth. Now Bonnie Belmont meets these horses on a good deal worse terms. As, however, the margin In his favour at Forbury was eight lengths, he may again prove equal to defeating them. Sarsaparilla should hold Duke Biugen and Proud Ata safe if Wellington form was true, but Cannonball is a promising horse that has yet to show what he really can do. John Mauritius, I do not like, while Trampfast and Money Spider, have each been set a very difficult task. At the jnoment, my leanings are towards Bonnie Belmont, Sarsaparilla, and Cannonball. JUVENILE HANDICAP (harness), of 300 sovs. One mile and a-balf. Choysa scr. , Strolholm .... scr. Denver City .. scr. Tactless scr. Ellesmere Lindbergh 12 Chimes scr. Sonoma Child.. 60 John Noble ... scr. Grand Light ... 84 So far as the scratch, division is concerned, there is not much form to guide one. Choysa ran fourth in the race won by Lindbergh, at Greymouth, on January 5, and showed a fair turn of speed at Hutt Park on January 10,' being well-backed each start. Sonoma Child was second to Dilnon at New Brighton, in December, registering 3.29 2-5. Grand Knight ran second to Wrackler In the Derby Stakes, his time being 3.29 2-5. In this race, Lindbergh was fourth, and Sonoma Chid unplaced. On Derby form, Lindbergh reads best, while Choysa may be able to hold off Grand Light, seeing that the latter is asked to concede 84 yards. LIVERPOOL HANDICAP (harness), of 300 sovs. 4.40 class. Two miles. Dilnon scr. Erin’s Lynn .... 12 Erin’s Royal .. scr. Hector’s Own ... 24 Golden Author scr. Ricardo 24, Mercury scr. Travis Roddy scr. Axworthy .... 24 Roger Lyon... scr. Malwhareti .... 36 Royal Serene . scr. High-Jinks .... 48 Vestas scr. Avenger 60

This promises to be a good race, and it has a somewhat open appearance. Mercury Roddy, and Vestas are a likely trio from the scratch division, and of these the latter may do best notwithstanding that he has not been raced for some time. Roddyraced well 1 at Forbury, where he registered 4.30. Mercury also went well at the same meeting, registering 4.37 2-5 when finishing' third in the Royal Handicap. Of those further back, Travis Axworthy may have the largest following, but he will be kept busy by the three mentioned. ,

CRAVEN HANDICAP (harness), of 300 sovs. 2.48 class. One mile and aquarter.

Glenelg scr. Away 24 Jolly Chimes .. scr. Black Admiral .. 24 Quality scr. Golden Devon-.. 24 Dundas Boy .... 12 Logan Holm .... 24 Audacious 12 Talent 24 Pageant 12 Prince Pointer .84

Glenelg appeals most of the three on the front mark, and I am Inclined to favour Audacious of those on 2.47 J Black Admiral should be in the picture, as he is a good beginner, and so can secure a favourable position in the early stages. Golden Devon should account for Logan Holm and Talent it he goes away with his field. Prince Pointer is set a very stiff task in being asked to do 2.4 L In what should be a good finish, Glenelg, Audacious, and Black Admiral may be to the fore.

Talent set. Logan Park .... 30 Countryman .. .. 12 Vesuvius 30 Bonny- Logan .. 24 Cardinal Logan 4R Quality ...... Western King .. 24 .. 24 Terence Dillon . 60

Nlghborn ... bcf. Happy Rosa .. 36 Clonmel .. 12 Engagement ... 60 Proud Ata .. .. 12 John Mauritius 60 Duke Bingen .. 24 Trampfast .... 108 Le Todd Sarsaparilla .. 24 .. 24 Money Spider . 144
