Patterson wrote asking for the erection of a foot bridge across the Wharemauku stream near Mr. Blackman's, and also commenting on the Baumatl drainage area, and the council's policy concerning Improvements to roads. This was re? ferred to the engineer for a report. The overseer’s report stated that on the Main East 'Road" the grader had been at work during the month on the completed portion of the road south of stokes Valley, at Intervals, when required, and that the traffic had been abnormally heavy. North of Stokes Valley entrance the Public Works gang had made a start with the widening of the road, and good progress was being made. The water-tables and haunches on this length had been attended to recently, and fresh chips put on where the Sealing had become affected by the hot weather. At Avalon Park the work ot clearing the roads and footpaths ot vegetation had been in progress, and the surface of the latter would soon be ready for a sealing coat, which it was proposed -to apply as soon as . the Weather permits.
