THE RIVER CLYDE

SENTIMENTAL VALUE TO BRITAIN (Australian Press Association.) (Rec. January 16, 5.5 p.m.) London, January 15. The military correspondent of the “Morning Post,” pointing out that the owners of the steamer River Clyde have found the steamer unprofitable, and are offering to resell, adds that the ship s sentimental value to Britain is considerable. He suggests that some person or persons may be disposed to secure the vessel as a national memorial of one of the most gallant episodes in military annals.

[The River Clyde was the transport which played such a gallant part in the landing of troops on Gallipoli. The President of the Board of Trade stated in the House of Commons last November that the board had no power to repurchase the vessel and moor it permanetly at the Thames Embankment as a war relic.]
