A nautical inquiry was held in Wellington yesterday into the grounding of the small coastal steamer Invercargill on Ohau Point on the morning of December 9 while on a passage from Wanganui to Wellington. Mr. E. Page, S.M., presided and had with him as assessors Captain E. Cartner and Captain S. G. Stringer. Mr. J. Prendeville appeared for the Marine Department. Mr. E. Parry for the master of the ship (Captain J. J. Smith), and Mr. J. F. B. Stevenson for the owners (the Coastal Shipping Company). After evidence had been taken, the Court intimated that it would give its decision this morning.
