CITY IMPROVEMENTS

Sir,—Your correspondent “Brien Hewitt’ has ably dealt with the great improvements effected in Wellington during recent years. However, there is much' which. can yet be done to . beautify the Empire City. . The new lay-out in Mr. Norwood’s time of Kent and Cambridge Terraces now meets with general approval. The attention of the present Mayor should be drawn, however, to the “drabness” existing in Fitzherbert Terrace. The old pines there have outlived their usefulness. They cast dirty leaves and their roots have broken up the centre footpath, and generally the street is an eyesore. It could at little cost be neatly laid out similar to Kent and Cambridge Terraces and planted with pohutakawas or Oriental planes. Perhaps Mr. Troup has a plan in train for , this long overdue work. — I am, etc., LOYAL WELLINGTON! AN. Wellington, January 14.
