WEIRD CARICATURE

BERNARD SHAW AS A . TOTEM POLE (Australian Press Assn. —Unitefi Service.) London, January 14. The weirdest of many weird things at the exhibition of the works of Sava Botzaris, the Serbo-Greek sculptor, is one representing Mr. Bernard Shaw. “Shaw in plus fours or astride a charger is unthinkable. He wants a symbol,'so I made him a totem pole,” said Botzaris. The result is something akin to a pillar of a Maori hut, surmounted by carefully-parted hair, beetling eyebrows, and a few wisps of whiskers. A wag suggests that at first glance it looks like Lot’s wife. Bernard Shaw suspends judgment till he has seen the caricature. “I think the totem pole a good idea, because I appear to be a totem to a good many people. I only hope that Botzaris made it tolerably good,” he said.
