AUCKLANDER’S TOUR OF THE EAST
CORONATION OF JAPANESE EMPESROR Dominion Special Service. .. Auckland, January 14. A five months’ tour of Japan and Java was made recently by Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Robertson, of Auckland, who arrived from Sydney by the Aorangi, last evening. I'lr. Roberton is Consul in Auckland for Japan, and so his tour of that country lielld additional interest for him. He was extended special privileges, and was received with the greatest friendliness everywhere. After attending the International Rotary Conference, in Tokio, Mr. Roberton, with airs. Roberton, saw some ofthe ceremonies fu connection with' the coronation of the Emperor Hirohito, at Kyoto. “We witnessed the entry of the Emperor to the Palace, and were very greatly impressed with the general rejoicing anid great enthusiasm of the people,” said Mr. Roberton. air. Roberton renewed his acquaintance with Prince Thkamatsu, who was in Auckland last ye&r, with the Japanese warships, and the Prince recalled pleasant memories of his stay In Auckland. He also referred to the many kindnesses bestowed upon him by the people.
