CATTLE ON RAILWAY TRACK

RUN INTO BY DAYLIGHT LIMITED On Friday night the Daylight Express from Auckland ran into a mob of cattle, which had strayed onto the line at Lynch’s Crossing, near Paraparaumti. Several were knocked clear of tlie line and injured. AVhen tlie driver pulled up, he was surprised to find one of the cattle still straddled across the front of tlie engine. Those who went to disentangle what they imagined was a badly hurt animal were very quickly disillusioned. Suddenly regaining its senses, the beast was off the “cowcatcher” in a flash. One bound, arid it. had cleared the cattle-stops and was off. The delay was a brief one arid after 10 minutes or so the train continued its journey.
