POSTS BETWEEN TRAM TRACKS

PUT THERE TEMPORARILY. Within the last 48 hours two large iron standards have been erected between tramway tracks near the waiting shed just before reaching Thorndon terminus. They are about 30 feet apart, and motorists have been regarding them with concern, wondering if it is a return to standards or power-line posts in the middle of the roadway. Upon inquiry at the office of the general manager of the tramways department. it was ascertained that the posts are being placed there temporarily only, although they will be there for a considerable time. Powerful lights are to be placed there during the construction of the huge culvert to be opened in Thornclon Quay and to go across the reclamation for drainage purposes. The contract is a very big one, and will take a long time to complete.
