BY ITALIANS IN SHANGHAI “FALSE IMPRESSIONS OF ITALY” REPRESENTATIONS TO CONSUL? GENERAL (United Press Association.— By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) . (Australian Press Association.) Shanghai, January 9. Thirty Italian sailors from a gunboat stationed here, armed with knives and pistols, raided the Capitol Theatre at a matinee at 5 o’clock this evening and seized the film “Street Angel,” which contained alleged false impressions of Italy, and was banned by Mussolini. They took the film to a nearby canal and burned it entirely. Police reserves were called out hurriedly and dispatched to the Carlton Theatre, where “Street Angel” was screening simultaneously, but the sailors did not appear there. The municipal authorities are making representations to the Italian Con-sul-General.
