THE ELEANOR BOLLING

DEPARTURE FOR BAY OF WHALES TO-DAY ■ By Telegrapli.—Press Association. Dunedin, January 10. , A favourable report of the breaking up of the ice pack having been received, the Byrd Antarctic ship, Eleanor Bolling, will leave Dunedin early tomorrow morning for the base near Franheiui in the Bay of Whales. The hour of the steamer’s departure for the Antarctic will depend on the completion of the loading. The Eleanor Bolling should reach the Bay of Whales on January 22, and after a stay of three or four, days will return to Dunedin. If there is any possibility of the ship loading again, travelling to the Antarctic and clearing the Ross Sea by March 15 at the latest, a third trip to the far south will be made this season. No risks will be taken, however, as if the trip were made too. late the steamer would be in danger of being caught in the ice for the winter.
