CALEDONIAN SPORTS
The directors of the Wellington Caledonian Society look with confidence to the publie of Wellington to turn out in thousands to witness their great programme of Highland and athletic events, to be held on the Basin Reserve on Wednesday, Boxing Day. The Caledonian sports mark a “red-letter day” in the year to the Scots in the capital city. The various competitors in the piping and dancing events have been training strenuously for months to compete at this meeting. Altogether, there will be prizes to the value of £250. Such an attractive programme, supported by so liberal a prize list, not only draws competitors, but also assures the public of a high-class programme. The chief of the society (Mr. R. H. Nimmo). extends an invitation to Scots, whether members of the society or not, to wear the kilt at the gathering. The piping and dancing events are scheduled to commence nt 10 a.m., and carry on continuously throughout the day. The athletic events commence at 2 p.m. The afternoon events will present an animated appearance, as the piping, dancing, parading of bands, and the athletic events will be carried on simultaneously.
