X-RAY FATALITY

CAUSE OF THE ACCIDENT

(“Times” Cables.)

London, December 18.

At the inquest on Doris Laverack. aged 8, who was killed on the X-ray table at the Hull Infirmary, a verdict of accidental death was returned. The radiologist said that the nurse unwittingly approached the danger-zone beyond the fluorescent stream, placing herself in an ideal position in relation to the overhead leads from the hightension system, completing the circuit, and giving a shock which was sufficient to electrocute the child.

[The electric current passed through the girl, and thence to the mother, who suffered from burns. The doctor also received a shock in getting the dead child off the table. There was a vivid flash, the current first traversing the nurse, thence the child, and thence the mother, who was standing at the head of the table. The mother was rendered unconscious, but recovered. The nurse was severely burned on the legs, arms, and body.]
