HIGH IDEALS IN LIFE
ADVICE TO COLLEGE BOYS
A frank admission that he was a “young ruffian” when at school, and that he never won prizes, was made by His Excellency the Governor-Gene-ral, Sir Charles Fergusson, at the annual “break-up" ceremony of Scots College in the Town Hall Concert Chamber last night. His Excellency went on to say that he intended, however, to give the boys some advice, which was that now was the time to realise their opportunities. “But,” he remarked, ‘t’liat advice has been given to boys all over the. world time and time again, and I don’t suppose you boys here to-night will take any more notice of it than I did. You should, nevertheless, make the most of your opportunities. You owe it to your •parents, to your teachers, to your companions,. and last of all, to yourselves. I am thinking more of those leaving college and going out into the world now. The whole of life lies before you. You can make your life what you like. Aim high and try to get there. Have high ideals in life; realise the opportunities you have and make the best of them.” (Applause.)
